It's time for Travel Tuesdays with your guide, miss Riley Pa..

It's time for Travel Tuesdays with your guide, miss Riley Parks ;). Today, we have ONE OF THE BIGGEST MYSTERY OF ALL TIME!!! I'm not even kidding! Back in 2018, on my third? fourth? trip to the UK, I decided that it was time to visit Stonehenge, a prehistoric monument that archaeologists believe was constructed from 3000 BC to 2000 BC. Prince Phillip was a youang stud compared to Stonehenge. It was a nice drive to get there, and I've stopped at a few places along the way (more about it on another day), but I've always been fascinated by how people used to do things thousand of years ago. I'm even more amazed by how, without modern technology, they could achieve great things. Let that sink in. Each stone is around 13 feet (4 meters) high, seven feet (2.1 meters) wide, and weighs about 25 tons. That's freaking 50,000 pounds for EACH stone. Believe it or not, but this remains one of the biggest mysteries in the world. HOW THE FRACK were they able to move those giant stones without machinery 5000 years ago? There is little or no direct evidence revealing the construction techniques used by the Stonehenge builders. Over the years, various authors have suggested that supernatural or anachronistic methods were used, usually asserting that the stones were impossible to move otherwise due to their massive size. However, using Neolithic technology as basic as shear legs, conventional techniques have been demonstrably effective at moving and placing stones of a similar size. How the stones could be transported by a prehistoric people without the aid of the wheel or a pulley system is not known. The most common theory of how prehistoric people moved megaliths has them creating a track of logs which the large stones were rolled along. Another megalith transport theory involves the use of a type of sleigh running on a track greased with animal fat. Such an experiment with a sleigh carrying a 40-ton slab of stone was successfully conducted near Stonehenge in 1995. A team of more than 100 workers managed to push and pull the slab along the 18-mile (29 km) journey from where the slabs were from. Can you imagine the effort, man power and time it took to create this monument? This is INSANE. I'm not one to believe in supernatural theories. The other two seems plausible. But my question would be WHY? What motivated you to create something that big that probably took MONTHS or YEARS to do? Spiritual reasons? A man in power who wanted to be remembered by something big? Yeah...probably the same reasons as why big things are erected in today's world... ps: I thought this was TOTALLY worth a visit to see it in person. It is WAY more impressive in person than on pictures. I was FAR from the monument to be able to get it all in the picture with me! If I had the opportunity, it's even somewhere I'd go back!
