It is an island known for its brightly colored houses and traditional lacework. Burano is situated in the Venetian Lagoon, close to Venice. It takes about half an hour water taxi ride to get there, and the ride is TOTALLY worth it! I always thought Burano was a cute little town that is extremely visually appealing. I first visited Burano in 2013 and went back a second time in 2016. I can never get tired of this charming village. Everything in this town seems so perfect! Burano's canals are filled with boats, and the brightly colored houses line the sides of the canals. The town is a perfect place to take amazing photos. Everywhere you turn is a perfect picture opportunity. Colorful houses, small bridges, even a leaning tower. Burano is not as busy as Venice. It's a nice place to break away from the crowds, and the water taxi ride is really nice. Plus, the village is also known for its lacing work, and many stores are making adorable, locally made, laced products! The main income to this town was tourism, so I really hope they will be able to recover from the past year. I may not be back anytime soon, but I sure want to get back at least once in my life. In my book, it's a can't miss place if you're visiting Italy. Oh and, sorry, there aren't any dirty stories from my trip there! LOL But instead, let me tell you why the Burano's houses are brightly colored (you might not jerk off to this, but you might learn something!) The story goes that the houses were painted vibrant colors so that 1) fishermen could distinguish their houses one from another, and 2) fishermen could see their houses in the dense fog filling the lagoon. Nowadays, if you want to paint your house, you need to ask the government first as only a particular set of colors are accepted in each "district".
